Black Creek History

Black Creek is nestled in Southeastern Georgia. The Black Creek Indians, also known as the Muscogee people, are a Native American tribe that has a rich history in the state, originally occupying a huge expanse of flatlands in Georgia and Alabama.

The Creek Indians established relations with the English, centered on exchanging enslaved people and deerskins for foreign goods. Over time, their lives changed dramatically, especially after the American Revolution.

The Creek Indians were a powerful and influential Native American group in the region. They were a confederacy of various tribes, primarily Muscogean-speaking peoples.

Their society was known for its complex system of kinship and clan affiliation, and they played a significant role in the early history of European colonization in North America.

Black Creek is a 13.0-mile-long tributary of the Savannah River. Today, the creek remains a natural wonder, and offers scenic views and a variety of animal habitats.
